Try to determine what your needs are and the details of your project. Also come up with a rough idea of what your budget is. You will need to do these things anyway, no matter who you choose to work on your project. Then answer these three questions:

  1. Are you and all involved parties motivated and dedicated to making the project a success? Strange as it seems, this often gets overlooked.
  2. What is the purpose of this project? The project’s audience, goals, features, specification and timeline must be documented (or the first phase of the project should be to do this.)
  3. Is the project adequately resourced, including expertise, time, materials, and funding? There is often a lot of work on the client-side for websites, brochures, etc. Actual content is really up to you.
